Roys Gita is the 30-year-old year old Indonesian fisherman who drowned on a Friday night September 30, after falling into the sea at Tu’imatamoana Wharf in Ma’ufanga.
Police today confirmed an inquest has ruled out any foul play or susipicion in regards to his death. The cause of death was drowning, confirmed a doctor's report.
His body has since been returned to Indonesia to his family for burial.
The fisherman was onboard the Yushun, a Chinese owned fishing vessel with another person. It was reported that he had been drinking alcohol. He got off the vessel onto the wharf, to go to a neighbouring fishing vessel and join some of his fellow fishermen who were onboard.
Close to 11:00pm Roys was reported to have fallen into the sea as the others heard the splash and ran out to see but he had disappeared underwater.
Police were called and a diver went down to recover his body but could not see anything nor locate him. The diving search continued on 1 October and his body was found, just near the area where he fell.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
