Australian-Tongan boxer Willie “Wildbill” Nasio has successfully defended his Australian Heavyweight title after beating an experienced fighter Hunter Sam who retired in the fourth round of the championship bout earlier this month October 7, in Broadbeach, Queensland.
This was Willie’s first defence of the title since winning the belt in March this year after a knockout victory over contender Joel Clifton.
The victory secures Willie’s position as Australia’s top domestic fighter and places him as a legitimate contender for more prestigious belts. Willie is considered by many to be an exciting prospect as he currently holds an impressive record of 10 victories with 9 coming by way of knockout. In 2014 Willie suffered his only loss in his fourth fight after a controversial stoppage against MMA fighter Tai Tuivasa. Since than however Willie has made a successful comeback.
Now living Gold Coast Australia, Willie was born and raised in New Zealand. He has served a two-year mission for the LDS church and started boxing in 2011 before making his professional debut in 2013.
