Tonga's Prime Minister Hon ‘Akilisi Pohiva received a Certificate of Honour as an "Honorary International Consultant of Peace" from the President of the Federation of World Peace and Love, Dr Hong Tao-Tze on 22 September at a United Nations side event.
"Being world leaders demands the highest standard of probity, honesty, integrity, accountability, perseverance and persistence in the exercise of their leadership role for the common good of all people," he said in an address to mark the International Day of Peace, a side event for leaders under a theme 'Sustainable Development Goals as building blocks for Peace', stated the Prime Minister's Office in Nuku'alofa today.
He said the position of world leaders is one of trust and that leadership at all levels without morality is doomed, leading to ongoing worldwide uncertainty and misery.
"Leaders have a great deal of discretionary powers responsible for decisions that can affect individuals, national, regional and the international community."
The United Nations has signed the UN Charger 70-years ago pledging to protect future generations from the scourge of war and to build a new type of relationship, guided by a set of principles and purposes. To this day, that purpose continues to be the United Nations seeking to achieve peace, justice and development for all humanity, he said.
