American woman jogger attacked on Sopu waterfront [1]

Tonga Police are searching for a man who allegedly attacked and repeatedly punched a 56-year-old woman of U.S. citizenship, while she was jogging at the waterfront in Sopu on Saturday morning, 16 July.
The offence occurred around 9:30am when a man attacked her from behind, while she was running on the sidewalk at the Sopu waterfront.
“She was knocked to the ground and punched repeatedly in the face. The offender ran from the scene when the woman screamed while fending him off,” stated Police.
The victim's name has not been released and no further information was available on her condition after the attack.
A full scale investigation is underway to locate the offender and Police are appealing for any information from anyone who was in the area or knows anything about this attack. “If anyone has any information in regards to this matter please contact Chief Superintendent Tevita Fifita on 922 or 7717816.”
