Around 731 residents of the village of Puke on Tongatapu, now have access to clean water after Japan granted over US$82K to restore the water supply system.
HE Mr Yukio Numata, Ambassador of Japan, said that he was pleased to commission the completed water supply, yesterday March 12.
“We are happy to witness the establishment of an environment friendly, safe and sustainable water supply system, that will become the basis of further development of the village,” he said.
The Ambassador said that Puke’s community water and piping systems were renewed by Japan’s grass-roots project in 2005 and recently upgraded again with solar poweredunits and new water tanks.
He urged Puke residents to look after the water supply unit. “I hope that you will all try to ensure the longevity of this system by taking care of it and maintaining it well.”
ST Plumbing services completed the project as part of Japan’s Official Development Assistance under the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Project (GGP).
