The Air Peau Vava'u service to Niuatoputapu and Niuafo'ou that was scheduled to start today, January 25 has been postponed to February 2, said Mosikaka Moengangongo, the airline's Project Manager.
Mosi said that the new service was rescheduled because it had not been properly marketed. She said that the Peau Vava'u will use a Twin Otter aircraft on its weekly service to the Niuas, and the company had bought a DC3 for its service to 'Eua. The Peau will continue to use the 50-seater Convair aircraft on its daily service to Vava'u and Ha'apai.
Meanwhile, a second domestic air carrier Airlines Tonga Air Fiji that is currently servicing the Niuas twice a week, is not certain when its service to the island of 'Eua will start, after running a test flight last week.
Domestic air service to the Niuas resumed after Airlines Tonga was issued with a licence on December 21 2005 to compete in the domestic air service. It was announced then by the Ministry of Civil Aviation that the service offered by the two airlines will be reviewed in March and only one airline will be given the monopoly status to operate the domestic air service.
