New Year weddings for 2016 have kept the Registry Office in Nuku’alofa busy with more than 30 marriages registered since last week, when government offices resumed working on 4 January after the holidays.
Today, 14 January, 13 marriages were registered - second busiest day for nuptials so far for the year. The busiest day was on Thursday, 7 January which registered a total of 15 marriages.
Among the happy couples today was Vaha Folau ‘Emelio (25) from Patangata and Lesieli Panuve (24) from Fua’amotu who were accompanied to the registry by their wedding party.
Meanwhile, December remains the most popular wedding season in Tonga with many couples rushing to the registry to tie the knot, just before government closed.
