A trial to hear an election petition filed against the Minister of Tourism and Vava’u No.16 People’s Representative to Parliament Hon ‘Etuate Lavulavu, which was to continue today, was further adjourned to Tuesday, 1 December in Neiafu.
Lavulavu’s counsel Sifa Tu’utafaiva, hired last week, asked for this second adjournment to complete English translations of his 16 witnesses that are expected to give evidence on behalf of his client, the respondent.
The trial presided over by Chief Justice O.G. Paulsen had attempted to start on Wednesday, 25 November with one witness called by the petitioner’s side. However, it was adjourned to 30 November upon Sifa’s request who needed more time to prepare their paper work, including the evidence of their witnesses.
The trial is to hear the election petition filed by Viliami Uasike Latu alleging Lavulavu had committed corruption and illegal activities during his campaign for the 2014 General Election, which was held on November 27, 2014.
Latu is represented by William Clive Edwards.
