Two members of Parliament, Lord Fusitu’a and Mateni Tapueluelu will represent Tonga at an Anti-Corruption Workshop for Pacific Parliamentarians to be held in Nadi, Fiji from 20-21 July.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) said in a statement the workshop is aimed at parliamentarians from countries which have yet to accede to the UN Convention against Corruption and from key parliaments involved in UNCAC reviews.
Pacific Island countries which are already parties to the UN Convention Against Corruption are Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Palau, Vanuatu, Cook Islands, Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands, Micronesia, Nautu and Kiribati.
Countries which are represented at the workshop but are not parties to the convention are Niue, Samoa, Tonga and Tuvalu.
Tonga enacted a Anti-corruption Commission Act in 2007 but since then an Anti-corruption Commissioner has not been appointed.
