Japan’s Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako will attend HM King Tupou VI’s Coronation in Nuku’alofa during a visit from July 2-6.
Japanese News website reported that the royal couple will leave Tokyo on 2 July to arrive in Tonga on the following day.
They are expected to attend the Coronation ceremony and luncheon on 4 July. The Crown Princess will skip other related events.
“The royal couple received an invitation from the Tongan King early this month. The decision on the Crown Princess’s trip was made after consideration of advice on her health from doctors.”
This visit to Tonga will be the first overseas trip for the Crown Princess who is now recovering her health since visiting the Netherlands in April-May 2013.
The Japanese Imperial Family and Tonga’s Royal Family have a close relationship as Crown Prince Naruhito attended the state funeral of the late King Taufa’ahau Tupou IV in 2006. He also attended the late King George V’s Coronation in 2008.
