The Speaker of the Tongan parliament, the Hon. Veikune, said today that the House would reconvene on Monday September 26 after nearly five weeks of adjournment.
The House was first adjourned for over two weeks during the national strike, then it reconvened on September 13 for a day before was adjourned again until September 19.
On September 19 the Speaker adjourned the House again to September 26.
Hon. Veikune said that the proceedings of the House were further postponed to September 26, giving members ample time to study bills, motions and Annual Reports which they will debate when the House reconvenes on Monday September 26.
"The members need up to three days to go through these thoroughly, so when the House resumes next Monday there will be no excuse for a member to request more time and there will be no need for further postponement," said Veikune.
The Speaker agreed that the House has still had a lot of work left in their agenda but he was confident they will be able to complete it before the 2005 Parliamentary session closes either at the end of October or in early November.
