A trial date has been set for July 13-31 this year to hear an election petition filed against Hon 'Etuate Lavulavu the Minister for Infrastructure and Vava'u No.16 People's Representative to Parliament for alleged illegal practices.
The trial, initially set for this week April 13-17, was adjourned pending Chief Justice Hon Paulsen's decision on whether the petition will be tried by judge and jury, or judge alone, and the venue.
The trial will be held before the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court.
The election petition was filed by a former Vava’u People’s Representative and former Cabinet Minister Dr Viliami Latu and ‘Aisea Silivenusi in December last year.
They alleged Lavulavu had committed bribery and other illegal practices, during his election campaign for the Vava’u No.16 constituency.
