Vaiola Hospital's Paediatric Ward has been gifted with a $100,000 playground, presented by the Tae Kami Foundation, this morning, 5 February.
The playground, named Si'oto 'Ofa by Queen Nanasipau'u, was officially opened by Prince Taufa'ahau Manumataongo, and instantly the children present loved it.
Tae Kami (15) a victim of child cancer, who died in 2008, had wished for a playground for the Paediatric Ward. She also wished for a Scholarship Fund and a Resource Center for children, which she assured her parents would be financed by a song that she wrote before she died “Walk on Walk Strong”.
Her mother Sina Kami told the crowd at the launching ceremony, that Tae's inspirational message was making her wishes come true.
She said that when her husband, Taholo Kami approached Dr Siaosi 'Aho, the head of the Paediatric Division of Vaiola Hospital, inquiring about what the Tae Kami Foundation could do for the Paediatric Division, Dr Siaosi 'Aho, said that he had been dreaming of a playground for the ward for seven years.
Sina said that the cost of a playground was well beyond what the foundation had, but with Tae's inspirational message and with faith they “walked-on” and with the assistance of individuals and donations from companies the dream came true.
