New Chief Justice joins Tonga Supreme Court [1]

Tonga’s new Chief Justice Owen Paulsen started in his new position at the Nuku’alofa Supreme Court on Monday, 12 January.
A New Zealand national, he comes to Tonga after practising law as a special litigator for over 26 years.
He was a partner at Cavell Leitch, Christchurch, leading the litigation team having extensive experience in commercial litigation for banks, insurance companies, human rights, property litigation among other areas.
He is a trained and qualified mediator and experienced in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution in all areas of litigation practice.
He replaces former Chief Justice Michael Scott, a British national, who finished on November 28, 2014.
Chief Justice Paulsen was sworn in on Friday, 9 January in Nuku’alofa.
