Royals celebrate Emperor's birthday [1]

The 81st birthday of the Emperor Akihito of Japan was celebrated in Tonga with a reception hosted by the Japanese Ambassasdor, HE Dr Kazuchika Hamuro on November 13, and attended by Crown Prince Tupouto’a ‘Ulukalala and Crown Princess Sinaitakala.
Ambassador Hamuro said Japan and Tonga had developed a cordial relationship over the years with people to people exchanges at various levels and a friendly relationship between the Tongan Royal Family and the Imperial Family of Japan.
He said following Tropical Cyclone Ian in Ha'apai in January this year Japan had assisted in the early recovery stage.
"Our assistance ranged from the provision of emergency relief goods, grant aid worth $3.6 million pa’anga to the Japanese funded Pacific Catastrophe Insurance Pilot Program, under which Tonga received US$1.27 million payout to finance urgent needs in Ha'apai."
Tonga’s Prime Minister Lord Tu’ivakano said the diplomatic ties between Tonga and Japan had strengthened over the years since 1970.
"Tonga continues to benefit from Japan's bilateral assistance programs which supports the country's national development priorities."
The reception was held at the Ambassador's residence in 'Anana, Nuku'alofa.
