A newborn baby boy who was found alive after being abandoned inside shrubs outside the Mahina Fekite residence on Sunday, November 9 is recovering well at Vaiola Hospital.
Tonga Police confirmed this afternoon the newborn was found around 9-10am on Sunday morning. Investigation is ongoing and the baby is reported to be doing well at the hospital.
Meanwhile, Tupou ‘Ahome’e Tuita-Faupula told Matangi Tonga that the baby was found abandoned inside creepers or shrubs at the back entrance to Mahina Fekite, the residence of HRH Princess Pilolevu Tuita and Lord Tuita at Fasi.
She said a woman who was returning from her shift at the bakery noticed something stuck inside the creepers. She went to look closer and saw it was a baby wrapped inside a cloth. She informed Hon Tu’ilokomana Tuita at the house, the police were contacted, and the baby was rushed to the hospital.
“We were told that it was quite fortunate he was found quickly, he was wet after being wrapped in a wet cloth as it was raining yesterday morning. He had contracted pneumonia and was put on the iv but that has been taken off today. So we are happy he is recovering well,” she said.
