The finals of the second round of the “Work Hard, Play Hard” Netball Tournament took place on Wednesday, November 5 Tonga High School courts in Nuku’alofa. Two teams from the Ministry of Health dominated the competition winning first and second place. The Australian High Commission (The Wobblies) won the first round of the tournament earlier this year.
The “Work Hard, Play Hard” is a ten-week long netball tournament organised by the Tonga Netball Association. The tournament specifically targets the participation of office workers and civil servants.
The teams competing in the finals were: two teams from the Ministry Health (Medics I & Medics II), Tonga Communication Corporation, Ministry of Justice, Tonga Development Bank, National Reserve Bank, New Zealand High Commission, and Australian High Commission Staff (the Wobblies).
It was the first time for National Reserve Bank of Tonga to participate in the tournament. Staff member Alex Fungavaka said that health issues are a concern at the bank, so they decided to join the corporate netball. “The experience has been overwhelming. Not only are they more driven to be active but they also enjoy the experience of furthering their networks....it's a good feeling and they will continue to take part in the corporate games to come."
