A monster Blue Marlin weighing 268.5 kg caught in Vava‘u today, landed Denise Knutson a new Tongan record.
According to Jeff Le Strange of the Hakula Lodge in Neiafu, the fish set a new Tonga Ladies Record for Blue Marlin on a 24kg line.
Denise and her husband Ross were fishing on their boat Escapade NZ. “It took her just a bit over 90 minutes to subdue the monster fish so Ross could use a gaff to pull it aboard,” said Jeff.
“Vava'u is proving to be one of the hottest destinations for Blue Marlin in the Pacific. The season will continue until December but most of the visiting boats will depart back to New Zealand in mid to end of October.”
Jeff said the fish went into the local village “and was consumed in record time”.
The Ladies record has topped off a great gamefishing season for Denise who was a top angler in the 23rd Tongan International Billfish Tournament held in Vava'u from September 5-9.
