Fiji’s interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama and his Fiji First Party had a convincing lead of more than 60 percent of the total votes in the provisional results announced at 1:00pm this afternoon.
The Fijian Elections Office website said the counting continued at 4:00pm, with more updated results expected this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the latest provisional results processed from 1281 of 2025 polling stations showed Fiji First Party's leading with 60.10 percentage of the total votes and 239,261 candidate votes out of the nine contesting parties.
Behind in second place with 26.70 percent of the total votes was the Social Democratic Liberal Party, while the National Federation Party had only 5.60 percent, and the People’s Democratic Party was in fourth with 3.50 percent.
Fijians went to the polls yesterday, September 17 and the counting began after 6:00pm last night.
This is Fiji’s first democratic election after the self-appointed leader Bainimarama seized power in a coup back in 2006.
