Driver charged with passenger’s death [1]

A 24-year-old man from Kahoua has been charged in relation to the death of a 20-year-old male passenger in a road crash at Tokomololo on Saturday evening, 14 June.
The accused Tinapa Saula is charged with manslaughter by negligence and that he drove a car carrying two male passengers, including the deceased, who was sitting in the front seat.
Police alleged the driver was speeding and crashed into the gate of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints on the intersection of 'Isipite Road in Tokomololo. Police also allege that the driver, and a passenger who was sitting at the back, fled immediately after the crash leaving the injured passenger in the car.
A driver who drove past after the crash stopped and rushed the victim to Vaiola Hospital. He had sustained severe head injuries and died on the morning of Monday, 16 June.
The father of the accused is said to have brought his accused son to the police. He remains in custody.
Police have yet to release the name of the deceased.
