Crime data shows assaults decrease [1]

The Tonga Police has released data on criminal offences that occurred between January and May this year 2014.
According to the data 1,187 criminal offences were committed between January and May in 2014, slightly less compared to last year in January and May 2013 when 1,195 criminal offences were recorded.
There was a significant decrease in common assaults compared to last year. For example 81 common assaults were recorded in the month of May 2013 compared to May 2014 when 62 common assaults were recorded.
Data on Domestic violence between January and May recorded six rapes recorded in domestic violence cases between January and May in 2014. There were none recorded between January and May last year 2013 in relation to domestic violence, however in other situations there were eight cases in the same period for 2013.
