Fiji is a lap ahead of Tonga when it comes to export initiative. A Fijian business was able to successfully secure an export of 13 tonnes of frozen vegetables, fruits, root crops and fish for the United States last week.
It was the first consignment of exports to the United States by the Nadi-based business Bula Island Food Supplies Ltd. Five shipments are expected to be completed by the end of this year.
The company was able to achieve its milestone objective with the help of the European Union (EU). The EU funded Increasing Agricultural Commodity Trade project assisted the company to enable it to expand its export operations.
A total of 42 Pacific enterprises are supported by the project, which is aimed at strengthening the export capacity of Pacific countries in the agriculture, forestry, aquaculture and livestock sectors.
