    : The government's need to increase its revenue collection was the reason behind increases of up to 700 percent in compulsory government licensing and service fees that had been variously brought into force over the last two years, Tonga's Chamber of Commerce was told on October 5, at a public consultation with some members of parliamentary standing committees.

    : "Tonga is considering accession to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention," said His Royal Highness Prince Mired Raad Al Hussein of Jordan, after concluding a two-day visit to the Pacific island nation.     : Although Tonga's Legislative Assembly discussed and criticized the practice of campaigning by members during their annual parliamentary tour to their constituencies, which is paid for by the House, no action was taken to curb the practice. Some PRs went out to hear what their constituencies needed, but one PR said he had a different approach and he went out to tell constituents what the government and house needed.
