Cultural dancer from Hawaii wins Miss Heilala 2007-08

The Miss Heilala 2007-08, is Miss Tonga USA, Tessie Leila Toluta’u, a student at Brigham Young University-Hawaii.

Tessie (19), was crowned Miss Heilala 2007-08 by HRH Princess Latufuipeka Tuku’aho at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall on Wednesday night, July 11.

Tessie, a popular cultural dancer back in Hawaii, dominated the pageant by winning three of the four judging events: the Sarong Swim Wear, the Talent competition and the Contemporary Island Creation.

The first runner up to the Miss Heilala was Miss Tonga New Zealand South Seas, Tina Veamatahau. The second runner up was Miss Appraxus Immigration, Makalita Na’a and the third runner up was Miss Ministry of Tourism, Shirley ‘Otumuli.

Tessie’s prizes include return tickets for two, Tonga-Australia-Tonga from Pacific Blue Airline, a $1,000 pa’anga cash prize donated by Ngalu Moala former Miss Heilala 1982, another $1000 cash prize from an unnamed donor, and a shopping voucher worth $100 pa’anga from Leiola Duty Free Shop and a gift pack from Art of Tonga.

The prizes for the first runner up, Miss Tonga New Zealand, included return tickets for two to Tonga-Australia-Tonga, a cash prize of $500 pa’anga, a shopping voucher of $100 pa’anga from Leiola Duty Free and a gift pack from Art of Tonga.

The second runner up, Miss Appraxus prizes included two return tickets to Tonga-Auckland-Tonga, $300 pa’anga cash prize and $100 pa’anga shopping voucher from Leiola Duty Free and a gift pack from the Art of Tonga.
